Welcome Weekend FAQs

Welcome Weekend Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome Weekend is a four-day event jam-packed with opportunities for you to meet and engage with your peers, learn all about º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½, meet key faculty, staff, and administrators, and simply acclimate to this new season at º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½!

All new entering students are automatically signed up for Welcome Weekend. We believe that WW is a vital part of your successful transition to º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ and we require all students (first-time freshmen or transfer) to attend. You will not only learn about our community policies and resources, you will meet friends that will last a lifetime and this is priceless.

We know many of our transfer students may have attended another university’s orientation program, however we believe º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ is different and every entering student will benefit from this experience. Approximately one-third of our entering students are transfers, so we do our best to provide our transfer students with a unique experience. Additionally, we do our best to place our transfer students in a Welcome Weekend group together so they can get to know others with a similar experience. Specific transfer student programming is also included during the weekend to benefit you.

Absolutely! We are happy to welcome back family and guests to Welcome Weekend on move-in day, August 27, with programming happening from move-in times (variable) through approximately 8pm. Check our Family and Guest Schedule for an updated glance at all the sessions and activities our families and guests can get involved in on that day.

Yes, meals for all new students are covered! Once you arrive on campus, we begin covering your meals through the weekend—even for commuter students who do not have a meal plan. Just keep your ID card on you—you’ll need to scan it when you enter The Caf.

We like to make things really easy for you—you are already signed up! Simply by being a new student at º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½, you are signed up for this awesome event!

Welcome Weekend comes out of the New Student Fee which places $170 on your account. This cost covers meals, supplies, a t-shirt, activities, and all other costs associated with Welcome Weekend and being a new student at º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½.

We require all of our new students to attend Welcome Weekend. If you choose not to fully participate, you do still have to pay the full fee. There are no refunds or prorations.

All of our fall athletes move in at different points. Please work with your coach and Housing on your specific move-in day and time. We will follow up with you about checking in specifically to Welcome Weekend at a later date.

Though we desire and require all of our incoming students (first-time freshmen and transfer students) to come to all four days of Welcome Weekend, we understand that not every student can make that commitment. If you are checking in during business hours but after the approved check-in times, please go to the Admissions Office in the Barton Building. If you are checking in after hours or on the weekend, please call our late check-in number 425-889-6302 when you arrive or are about to arrive. Also, please be sure to email housing@northwestu.edu if you are living on campus so we can let your Area Coordinator know you won’t be checking in at the normal time.

Residence Life and Housing are working diligently to house all our incoming students. To achieve a smooth process of moving all of our new students in on August 27, everyone will receive a specific scheduled move-in time between 8am-1pm via email in the beginning of August.
